Cerambycidae

Named after a farmer Cerambus who was turned into a beetle with long horns in Greek mythology. There are over 36000 species.

The larvae are called roundhead borers and can cause serious damage to trees.

The larvae take 2-3 years to reach maturity and the adults live about 50 days (males ) to 65 days (female)

Some species can mimic ants or bees.

They generally have long antennae that are as long as the body ,although some species have short ones. This highlights the problem that this family has few distinguishing features in Adults , which creates problems with taxonomy
