They resemble dagger or swordwing papilionidae. However Marpesia (being nymphalidae) have 4 legs whilst papilio butterflies have 6. In addition the antennae of papilio butterflies are recurved, whilst Marpesia are straight.

Mexico to Argentina . Sexes similar , its appearance mimics D. juno when in flight and often can be seen feeding from flowers with that species.
