Trachelophorus giraffa

These lovely attractive insects are from Madagascar where they feed on Dichaetanthera arborea (the giraffe beetle tree). The males necks are 2-3 times longer than the females, and they use them in visual competitions with other males. The females use their neck to create a tube of leaves within which they lay a single egg.
