Brahmaea tancrei

These are found in Russia,China, Korea and Indonesia, they emerge in April and feed on Oleaceae (olive) family. They have atrophic mouth parts and they do not feed but can drink a little water through the proboscis . The caterpillars have whip like appendages and are well camouflaged. They pupate underground. They can hatch or go into diapause (arrested development) and overwinter as pupae. They breed well in captivity . males have slightly longer antennae.
