There are fifty species of small butterflies in this genus , from Central America to Paraguay. They can be divided into two groups - 'whites' and 'green blues'. They are fond of flowers and damp patches on the roadside.
Most have highly reflective green or bluish upper sides with a dark apex and borders.

This is a common species recognised by the 4 squarish black markings on the fore wings, the underside has a pair of blue centred submarginal ocelli on the underside hind wings . They are active in hot sunny conditions , where they fly quickly in a zig zag pattern. The males probe for minerals in river beds .
