Geotrupinae

Geotrupidae ( from Greek geos , earth and trypetes, borer ) are dung beetles that lay eggs in burrows. They eat leaf litter and faeces.

There are about 600 species, they fly in sunshine and dusk

The antennae have 11 segments with clubs. The abdomen has 6 ventrites usually bright metallic blue/green.

Foretibia has 6 lateral teeth, mandibles visible from above , and the abdomen projects beyond the elytra.
