Actias selene

The Indian moon moth are found in India, Myanmar ,China and other countries. They are sexually dimorphic - the females are bigger with a larger wing area with thin antennae and fat bodies with rounded wing tips. The males have brighter colours ,falcate wingtips and two claspers at the end of the abdomen.

They pupate in a silk cocoon

Adults do not feed and live for 10-16 days

Females do not travel much , but sit and release pheremones to attract males (who travel at night)

They feed from many plants including Prunus (cherries) , Salix (willow) and Quercus (oak)
