These large and beautiful butterflies are confined to Africa, mainly in the western forests. There are about 180 species but there is more intraspecies variation than interspecies variation , they also hybridise and are polymorphic, so there may be fewer species than thought.
The green species are found in forests , whilst the yellow species and forms are found in drier regions with less dense forest.
The females tend to be larger than the males.
